Micronization

Micronizing (finest grinding) implies the significant reduction of the particle size to values of less than 10 µm by means of various grinding processes. The thereby increased surface-volume-ratio results in improved correlations of the particles with their surroundings. This involves the following advantages:

  • Improved dispersing behavior of micronized particles for the production of stable suspensions
  • Increase in dissolving speed of active ingredients which involves a quicker bioavailability
  • Change in viscosity of particle systems
  • Prevention of the perception of micronized particles on, for example, the skin or in the mouth
  • Possibilities of a microencapsulation for controlled release
